Well, I've got a bunch of different things to talk about/mention. To start: yay for Mario Lemieux! I'm really quite impressed at his love for hockey! It must be tough to be not only an owner of, but a player on a team that has to sacrifice so much because of cash problems, but he's still coming back for another year, even though it must be painful to be the captain of such a gutted team. Not to mention the enormous paycut he's taking to do so! What dedication.
What else? I opened my Mogilny Fanlisting, so please check it out--and even better, join!! ^__^
Oh, and last night I opened a PC savings and chequing account!! Woohoo! I feel so good about saving for Colorado! Now if only I could feel the same excitement about saving for the vague, intangible "future", maybe I wouldn't be such a spendthrift! =P
Finally, I've "discovered" Quizilla, so I've been looking for and taking a whole bunch of hockey quizzes! Here are my results:
You are #13 Mats Sundin!
As the first non-North American captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, you are not only a superstar, but also a great leader both on and off the ice. You like to lead by example, and you are respected and loved by both fans and teammates for your grace, class, and selflessness.
Well, you've made it in the West, but with your consistency that's about as far as you're going to get. Here's a hockey lesson for you: there are 3(!) periods in hockey, so maybe you should play that much. You like close calls, and living life on the wild side in general. Coming back from any deficit, or almost losing after being in the lead, or losing after being in the lead all seem to give you some sort of cheap thrill. Remember, having a good surrounding doesn't make you a good team, so you have to work for the money you lazy bum.
You are Ales Hemsky! An amazing rookie, you have become a vital part of your team. Even though you don't always shoot the puck yourself, your assists are sometimes even more valuable then a goal!
Patrick Roy is your ideal hockey player. I hope your not too much into commitment with him. He's a true player. And he likes his alcohol. Make sure you watch out for his temper.
You're Mats Sundin!!! This quick-thinker knows how to come up with plans and execute them. Watch out because you never know what kind of crazy plan he might be coming up with.
You are Alex Mogilny! Even though you often look as if you don't care, you're still incredibly talented and smooth. You're also sarcastic and blunt, but in a good, funny way.
Well, I'm going to see if I can actually manage to save money with as big an incentive as going to Colorado during Reading Week! My plan is that rather than buying hockey stuff (like cards, photos, etc.), I will set aside the money I would have spent on the stuff for Colorado. Not only that, but if I find myself unable to resist the urge to buy hockey stuff, then I willl put an amount equal to how much I spent towards Colorado. And the savings don't stop there! I'm also planning on putting at least part of my tutoring money into that fund as well--for the rest of the summer it'll be everything I earn from tutoring, since it's just "extra" income anyway. A while ago I adopted a "no spending change" policy, so now all the loonies and toonies I've been saving up are going to go towards Colorado as well. Oh, and my mom just suggested that I should also put my GST rebates into this fund, which is a good idea!
I don't want to get my hopes/expectations too high, but so far it seems like the plan's been working! It hasn't been that long (less than a month) since I decided that I was going to Colorado, and I've got a pretty decent sum saved so far:
loonies & toonies: $105
tutoring earnings: $70
matching hockey spending: $39
GRAND TOTAL: $214
Hopefully I'll be able to open a PC Banking account sometime this week to put all my savings into--and to somewhat remove the temptation of spending it!
Actually, I might not have as much as it seems like I have. Someone suggested to me that I should think about making a commitment to our church renovation and expansion plan. It makes sense too, I mean, if I'm willing to put so much thought and effort into Colorado, shouldn't I be willing to put forth an equal effort for my church? So yeah, I think I'm going to continue thinking of all these methods as "Colorado saving plans" but split the actual savings between Colorado and church--meaning that I have $112 for the church expansion, and $112 for Colorado. It's kind of bad, but I know that if I was trying to save just for the renovation and expansion, I might have only $25 (if even) saved by now, but the amount would still be $214 if I was thinking only of Colorado. Kind of says something about my priorities and passions, huh? ^^;;
But yeah, I'm really excited about going to Colorado, and I really hope that I'll be able to save up all the money on my own. Well, not counting the flight expense, which is likely going to be covered by my parents' airmiles. I don't know why, but when it's something important to me, I really love to be able to pay for myself, but when it's something unimportant, like clothes, I always try to con my parents into paying for me. =P
What do you think of this as the layout for my Mogilny FL? Of course, I would actually choose a colour for the background, but that's basically how it would look? Is it okay? I admit that I used a lot of other FL designs for inspiration. I don't like the way the title looks though...Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Remember how I applied for a part-time job at the ACC Centresports store? Well, when I didn't hear back from them within the first two or three weeks I pretty much gave up hope and consoled myself that I could always apply again next year. BUT when I got back there was a message on my cellphone asking me to give the manager a call back if I was still interested! Interviews are TOMORROW! I'm pretty excited about it, if not all that hopeful.
See, the manager, Alex, told me that he wouldn't be able to get back to me until today (Tuesday the 22nd), but I called the number he gave me and left a message on Monday AND today at 4:30pm, giving him both my home and cell numbers, and I STILL haven't heard back! ^^;; If the interviews are tomorrow, you'd think I should have a time arranged by the day before, right? So yeah, I'm not too sure what's going on with that. Anyway, I'm not stressing over it. That's one of the things I learned from the trip: to just pray and leave things up to God. It's not something I can control, and if it's God's will it'll happen, so why worry?
Woohoo! I'm glad to be home! I'm surprised at how little hockey news I actually missed. Okay, so Fedorov went to the Ducks, but I'm neither a Detroit nor an Anaheim fan, so that's not a big deal to me. Anyway, I've got lots to talk about in terms of Grenada, so you can read about all of that (hopefully soon) at my Being Real blog.
I got the Mogilny fanlisting! Actually, I got it before I left, but I was so busy with preparations for the trip, I think I forgot to mention it. Also, the Colorado Avalanche fanlisting was removed from the Upcoming list, so I applied to get it!! ^_^ Hopefully I WILL get it! I wonder if I should apply for a Kaberle one? I don't think that many people would join it...but it'd be kind of nice to see how many people would, ne? ^_~
I will be in Grenada from July 5-19th! I'm part of a team of ten from my church going there to run children's programs, to do work projects, to run workshops, and above all, to share how Christ's love and the ways in which God has worked in my life! ^_^
Holy smokes!! Kariya accepted a contract of only $1.2 million, with NO incentives or bonuses!! Wow. Guess Kariya really wanted to be on the Avs!! Eat THAT Ducks. xP (You'll recall that I never actually jumped onto the Ducks bandwagon: I said I was cheering for them for the Cup, but that I wasn't a fan.)
Selanne's getting $5.8 million. How much was he making with San Jose? Regardless, I don't think anyone can beat the paycut that Kariya accepted willingly to play for a specific team. @_@ It's absolutely mind-boggling!!
